The Ministry of Education is fascinated with the milestones that Maasai Mara University is recording towards containment of the spread of COVID-19 in the University. This was revealed during a recent visit to the varsity by the Director University Education in the Ministry of Education Mr. Dairus Mogaka Ogutu who represented the Principal Secretary for University Education and Research Amb. Simon Nabukwesi.
After touring all essential facilities in the University such as the lecture halls, academic library, conference rooms, health centre, cafeteria and students mess, the Director University Education said it was impressive that the universities were making progress in ensuring adherence to the COVID-19 preventive measures which include wearing of masks, temperature screening with non-contact temperature assessment devices such as the thermal imaging systems and non-contact infrared thermometers. He was also elated to come across innovatively inhouse manufactured handwashing tools, sanitizers and soap set on all strategic areas within the institution. Observing social distance of not less than 1.5m among students in lecture halls and hostels, staff in offices was also commendable.
Mr. Mogaka emphasized that institutions were allowed to resume phased face-to-face learning for students but with mandatory adherence to covid-19 protocols. “It is upon the University Senate to ensure that phased re-opening strictly observes the COVID-19 set guidelines by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Interior in order to ensure safety of the students,” Mr. Mogaka said.
During his visit the Director also assessed the institution’s progress of the ongoing government sponsored development projects where he lauded the management for ensuring the projects are realized within stipulated guidelines and timelines.
Maasai Mara University keeps modifying its infrastructure in the lecture halls, restaurants, library, hostels, laboratories, health center and other areas patronized by many people to comply with the safety protocols.
